The overall theme focuses on the market economy in the welfare state. Most Western nations are, to varying degrees, welfare states. Therefore, the real-world challenges to individual freedom, free markets and human dignity largely occur in the context of the welfare state, which renders it important to analyze. The meeting will highlight how liberty and markets fare in the welfare state, especially with regard to entrepreneurship and institutions such as the rule of law, and how political change may be achieved.
